Hi, im 21 weeks pregnant now i found out my lil boy has gastroschisis about 5 weeks ago. i was just wondering if anyone could give me advice about delievery. At first i was told i had to have a c-section but then i went to another doctor and he told me a regular birth is better. im so confused. if anyone can help that would be great. i just want to pick the best thing for my baby.

I had my baby vaginally, and it was a wonderful delivery! I was told that as long as the hospital team is aware of the complication, and prepared, there is no reason to do a c-section

At no point during my pregnancy did anyone mention a c-section. Although everyone I told naturally assumed I would be having one.

My labour and natural delievery was absolutly fine ~ a very positive experience :) As 4ashw4 says as long as they are aware of the comdition there is no reason your delivery should be any different to anyone elses.

Congratulations on your little boy and all the best x

Hi there! My name is Jacqueline and I have a daughter who was born with Gastroschisis. The doctors told me that i could choose which kind of birth i wanted to have. They encouraged vaginal because i would heal faster and that it wouldnt hurt the baby in any way. I chose vaginal and it was an easy delivery. They were prepared and had everything ready for when she came out. I would definitely recommend vaginal! :D I hope things are going good and congrats on ur baby!

Hey I had a vaginal delivery. The fetal medicine doctors told me it is much better for you and the baby if you deliver naturaly. Yes everyone when you tell them about the baby they always assume you will be having a section and at some point it does make you question well should I be having one really? But I assure you Kayne (my lil boy) was my first and I was petrified but I sailed through it and even got to hold him. I was only in labour 3 and a half hours.

They like to start you off early when your baby has gastroschisis which means you will have a drip with a hormone in (oxytocin) put in to start your contractions off. This means that your contractions will start off stronger and normally means your labour is quicker.

You will be fine, good look and stay positive. Lucy xxx

Hi michelle, Iwas also told the same as you from two different hospitals. I had a normal delivery that was complicated, but evan though it was difficult and i was poorly my recovery time was quicker. Follow your instincts, ask to have a chat with your obstertrician/midwife and talk to them of your fears & anxieties, this will help you to make an informed choice. Always remember some times we don’t have a choice in labour your life and that of your baby is paramount. Good Luck for you and your little boy lesley.

The best thing for your baby is to treat it like the condition is not there. If you are having problems (just like in a normal pregnancy) that requires a c-section for a safer, quicker birth than that is what you will/should have.
If your pregnancy digresses fairly and normal there is NO reason whatsoever you cannot have a natural birth. =)
I on one hand had a c-section because my son’s heartrate was unstable and erratic, even in a normal pregnancy that would of been a c-section. =)
Congrats and good luck!

My doctors always told me I would delivery vaginally, but that they weren’t going to let me go past 36 weeks. My little man was still breech at 36 weeks though so I had to have a c-section. : (

Thanks all this information is a big help. Im also a type 1 diabetic so from the beginning i was going to have a c-section i dont know if this makes a difference
