As an adult

I was born in 1984.  My parents had no idea that there was anything wrong with me until I was born.  The doctor just looked at me because he had no idea what to do.  Until now as an adult I have not had any problems.  My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for over a year now.  We went to a fertility doctor and last week we found out that we would need to have IVF to get pregnant.

The doctor discovered that because of my Gastroschisis at birth I have too much scar tissue in abdomen.  My uterus is pushed to one side, one fallopian tube is blocked and the other is squished.  I am wondering if anyone else has had fertility troubles as an adult because of Gastroschisis?

Hmmm, I have been having the same issue and being born with gastroschisis that would make sense I am going to get checked by a doctor. If you dont mind me asking how does your scarring look?

What tests did you get to show the state of your uterus and fallopian tubes? I’ve had an internal ultrasounds to check for ovarian cysts (they found none) but there were no comments about the location of my organs. I want to get checked out in case this is the cause of my fertility and menstruation problems.
    Cheers, Kate

i was born with Gastroschisis, and have had two children. The only problem that i have ever been told was that i i have ovarian cysts. During my pregnancy i was made to go for level two ultra sounds to monitor the baby’s development closely.

Hi, I was born with gastroschisis in 1993 and havent had any stomach problem until recently. Im not sure if its related but was wondering if you had stomach problems throughout your life or did it start randomly?

I was born in 1977 with gastroschesis.  I have three beautiful children, all of which were born c-section, all were healthy and so was I!  I guess I am lucky because I have never had pain associated with my scar.  Even while pregnant, I did not notice any pain near my scar.  I didn’t have a perfect round belly due to having more of my intestines pushed over and more scar tissue to the left side of my body so I was a bit lopsided, but other than that everything went perfectly.  My first two pregnancies were difficult to conceive but the third was not.  I have no idea if it was related to the gastroschesis or not??  I wish you the best!!

I was also born in 1984 with Gastroschisis and recently had an ectopic pregnancy (removing one of my tubes due to SO much scar tissue in my abdomen) and the doc has now said that IVF is the only way to get pregnant because of all the scar tissue, my tubes are blocked, and we will risk losing my other tube with another ectopic if we try naturally… :(

I was born in 1984 with Gastroschisis also I have had three pregnancies the first a baby girl in 04 I lost her to Gastroschisis at 27 weeks. since then I had two healthy boys both c-section. during my pregnancies I had very painful stretching of the scar.  has anyone had issues with infections in the scar? my scar is roughly the size of a quarter and is where my belly button should be.
