My daughter was born on 23th july 2008 with gastrochisis and was doing well .But now they say she is not doing aswell as they expected her to do at this stage ,they are now saying that she will need a dye put in to she if there is a blockage as she is’nt takin the amount of milk as they would like her to and have now put her back on TPN and lowered her milk to 8ml every hour as she keeps being sick at times after feeds. has anyone went throu the same process as were going throu….

Hi Dee,
My grandaughter has dealt with issues like you are describing. She was born 2/20/08. The dye will allow the doctors to get a good idea of the shape and function of your daughters intestines and bowels to see what else if anything needs to be done to help her along. They dont have discomfort from the procedure, my grandaughter has had this done numerous times and never seems to worse for the wear. Stay strong and hopefull, its a long journey getting these little ones up and running, but before you know it you will be chasing her around and these days will be memories.

my aden went through this as well. many times they thought he had a blockage and would do the tests only to find every time that he had very slow motility (which he has now grown out of). he continued to throw up after each feed until he was around 6 months old. he is now 10 months and has a few spits here and there, but nothing more than your average baby at this age. he also has a slight malrotation in his upper bowel and a hiatal hernia which is probably the reason for the occasional spit. other than a funny looking belly button you would never know he had anything wrong now. he is chubby, in the 75th percentile, healthy, and ahead for his age in milestones. we were given a clean bill of health from the doc months ago. his doc calls him a miracle. my prayers will be going up for your little one.

hi, i went through the same thing with my son aaron in 2000. he had the dye and was always being sick. it turned out he had gastro-reflux ( which alot of babies suffer from), and he was allergic to breast milk. he was put on a special milk which is already partly digested to make it easier for him to digest, and also had a sachet of gaviscon mixed in wiyh his milk to thicken it. hopefully by now your problems have been sorted out and your daughter is making good progress.we were in 3 different hospitals for 4 months with aaron so i undrstand how you have been feeling. if you would like to talk at any time you can email me at jotreloar@aol.com i wish i had had access to a site like this at the time, felt we were the only people going through it.
