Born with Gastroschisis

I am a 19 years old female, and I was born with Gastroschisis. I live a very normal healthy life. Its part of my every day life and i dont think twice about it.

I had to have my stomach cut open just as I was born and then the hole in the stomach was stitched up and my outter stomach was stitched back up, resulting in a scar about an inch long. I was kept in hospital for the first three months of my life, which was hard for my mum and family but they all stayed strong for me. I was watched closely over the years and was only allowed to drink a certain milk for a while when left to go home with my family from the hospital. As i have grown up with it, it is normal to me and i havent had any problems since leaving the hospital 19 years ago.

Yes people ask why i have this scar but im happy to say and explain because its nothing to be scared about or embarrassed.

Dont let it get you down :) x x x

my name is adrienne. My family explains my childhood similar as above. I 24 and it has been difficult these past few years. I have had two other surgeries in the past 3 years. One that was a very large mass that spread to my tube and ovaries and required my small intestines all some female organs to be removed. Now i have one ovary and a hopeless block tube. HArd news to get after this birth defect and then get my tube and ovaries removed and wanting a family someday! So I am praying and saving for IVF one day. My scar is from eac side. I have to have several other repairs as a child in 84. Hernia repair, appendiz and some others.

Hey thanx for reading my story. Umm i was told by the doctor’s that i would in future be able to have children if i wanted. The only thing would be is to have regular check up and more scans, just to take extra care of the unborn child. I was told i shouldnt have anything to worry about however they always can give u counselling to help if worried. I was told that id even beable to have a natural normal birth. hope this helps :) x x
