I`m new to this … well i had never even heard of gastroschisis and you always think it will never happen to me and well it did i went in to have a ultrasound done by one of the people who does it 4d and 3d and well, i went in to found out the babys sex cause so badly i wanted a girl because i already have a lil 2 yr old boy and i was so excited to go and nervous because i knew i would be a little upset if it was a boy but little did i know that wouldnt even matter after what the doctor would end up telling me.
Well me and my husband went in and she started out using a regular ultrasound (not 3 or 4d) and i could tell right away by her face that something was not right but she just continued to talk about other things but then she asked how many ultrasounds i had had and who did them because my baby has gastroschisis and she went on to tell me so many things about what it was and what was to come and i`m just sitting there still trying to deal with her saying that he had gastroschisis that his intestines were NOT in his body.
Then the tears came, all i said, all i wanted to know was the gender, why my baby?
I was devastated but anyways i really dont know what to do my obgyn didn`t even notice it and he had done a ultrasound 4 wks prior i just know he is not competent to handle delivering of this type of baby and he hasn`t even called to make the apt.s that she said i would need to be going to, i`m already 30 wks pregnant and i just dont know….

my name is dana and my daughter has the same condition. You should be getting ultrasounds once a week and having non stress test twice a week. You should have also been recommended to a specalist that handles these types of surgeries and if your doctor hasnt done this you need to demand it. Most pregnancies last between 35wks - 37 wks so you don’t have alot of time and remember to test your baby your self make sure he is kicking at least ten times within two hours. The specialist told me that these types of babies have a tendency to be still born so you have to monitor your self. i delivered my daughter in St. Louis at Barnes Jewish hospital and they did her surgey one hour after I had her and I was able to deliever her naturaly. And she spent the next three and half months in the hospital learning how to eat and making sure she would keep her food down. Since her intestines were in amniatic fluid they were swallon and her peristolis was going in reverse. They also tryied different formulas designed for children with sensive stomaches her miricale formula was neocate.
the same problem happened to me except i was referred to a specialist and they were so busy they did one ultra sound a month and wouldn’t take me thru their clinic i never had any blood work done and never even had my blood pressure checked. I went two months with no news so i went and found another dr. who would transfer me to another specialist. Check for high risk dr.’s and pediatric surgons in your area if i’m to late with this advice hopefully it can help somebody else. My son was bad off when he was born and the new hospital i went to told me that maybe if the one i was going to before had paid close enough attention (because the last month and half they started canceling my ultrasounds) then they would have known he had started going into distress and that his bowels and becomer servrely dilated and they would have known an emergency c-section was in order and it might not have gotten so out of hand. 5 surgeries later they call him the miracle baby because they said he would have a ostomy for the rest of his life and he doesn’t they said his bowels would never work and they do and after 5 surgeries and 5 and 1/2 months of nicu and picu life we should be home within the next week and half two weeks tops. SO TAKE CONTROL TRUST ME IT’S FOR THE BEST
