My son was born with gastroschisis 6 days ago. The nurses at the hospital say that he is doing really well. He has started having bowel sounds and he had a bowel movement sometime yesterday. Leaving him in the hospital was the hardest thing I think Ive ever done. I just wanted to sit around and cry. It hurt to leave him, but I know that he is getting taken good care of.
I was just wondering how long any of you had to wait until your baby was able to leave the hospital and come home.

Congratulations on the birth of Owen, glad he is doing so well.
We waited 19 days before we brought Tanisha home.
aden was in for 56 days, and now in a healthy, happy little boy. the only thing he has to show for his stay is a small scar from the picc line and an outie belly button, which really doesn’t look abnormal at all.
our baby was born february 27, 2008 and was released april 7, 2008.
My granddaughter Kyrie was born July 22, 2008 and she is still in so we don’t know yet. She is just up to 8 milleters of feedings with the ng tube at this time plus she has a cleft lip and palate which I am sure will add time to her hospital stay. Hang in there. The hospital staff works miracles with these little babies.
UPDATE:
Owen finally came home on August 1 after 5 weeks of being in the NICU. He is doing great, he doesnt have a scar from the surgery. However, he does have a scar from the broviac in his leg. But he is doing great and we are super excited to have him home.
