Baby Lilly decided to arrive by emergency c-section on 11th June @ 4.23am weighing 5lb 12oz.

She is absolutely gorgeous!!

They whisked her away as soon as she came out, I got a little peek before she left.  I got to see her a few hours after her operation and she had a silo pouch and looked extremely swollen and puffy which they said was from the drugs to paralyse her.  Everyday she looked so much better.  She has been given a long line and is still on morphine etc.  But she was taken off the ventilator today, although she will be back on it Friday when they do the closure operation.

She’s a little fighter and a little squaker at the moment!!  I feel like i’ve known this little girl for ages and it’s not even a week.

It is jusy so worrying.  Not knowing what to expect and not being able to help in any way.

The first time I left hospital for a few hours to go back home I cried all day coz I didn’t want to leave her on her own.  The nurses here are brilliant and I know she is in the best hands.

I am now staying in accomodation at the hospital but will be going home on the weekend which I am dreading coz I know I will be so upset.  We will be coming up every day to see her but I just hate leaving her.

Did you all feel the same?

stressed out!

My 14 yr old daughter was born with gastroschisis 2 mths early through emergency c section. She came home after 5 wks and was doing great. After time she had trouble with constipation and had to take lactulos to soften her stools. When she was five her school friends noticed she had a scar and started asking questions. I asked the teacher if it would be ok to take photo’s of Lauren as a baby to school to show the children how sick she was and what she had been through. This turned out to be a great thing because she was geting a complex as nobody else in her school had been born with gastroschisis. We did approach the doctors about cosmetic surgery as Lauren has no belly button they said when she hits teenage yrs they will start consulting us about cosmetic surgery. Over the last few years i noticed Lauren’s scar has pulled inwards like its being sucked into her stomach. Now Lauren has a new problem that has arisen as she is having problems stretching and playing some sports in school. We have been to see a consultant who has said the scar tissue in her stomach has fused to her stomach muscles, thats why she cant stretch out properly. Has anybody experienced this?

Hi i’m 19 years old and have a gorgeous little girl called macie pink. she was born on 25th sept 07 with gastroshisis. i found out on my triple test results that she had this condition. i was so worried at first and thought nothing but bad thoughts, i researched everyday about it and started feeling a bit better about it. i had scans every 2 weeks at my local hospital and at the hospital that was delivering ny baby.(addanbrookes)

i was meant to be getting induced at 37 weeks but macie decided to come early at 36 weeks by emergancy c- section. she was 4lb 6oz and had her operation 2 hours after birth. it was a scary experiance but i knew she was in safe hands. the surgeons were brillant and when i got out of recovery i got wheeled into intensive care to see macie she was on a venterlator for 1 day and stayed in the for 1 week then moved into special care for a longer 3 weeks. macie couldn’t have milk until she had a poo which took 2 and half weeks.she started on 1 ml of wilk every 4 hours and was put down her tube in her nose, and went up to 20ml every 3 hours and so on…

finally we got transfered to our local hospital and was there a further 2 weeks. it was a very long and stressful time for us but we’ve got through it and macie is 5 months now weighing 11lb. she so precious and so brave. her scar is hardly noticable.

so to all you mummy’s 2 be with babies going to be born with gastroschisis its really not that bad u must be strong for your little 1s! take care x

My daughter was born with gastroschisis on 4th Nov 2007 by emergency c section at 37+1 weeks due to reduced foetal movements and a possible twist in the bowel. Luckily Ella was born with uncomplicated gastroschisis and there was no twist in the bowel.

Ella had surgery 9 hours after birth and after only around 35 hours on a ventilator, 5 days in SCBU and 9 days on the ward, Ella came home.

She spent a total of 15 days in hospital and since coming home has had no problems since! She is a very good baby and has been sleeping through since 9 weeks!

I know we were very lucky with our experience and I wish everyone the best. Feel free to contact me at emersonbrown@tiscali.co.uk for any advice or to chat.

I am Tracey’s mom… I have been a quiet member here for a
while…. I wanted to let everyone know that what I thought was a
normal ultrasound and prenatal visit yesterday turned out to be Isabella’s birthday! Isabella Marie was delivered at 5:11 pm at 34 weeks gestation by emergency c – section. I forgot how long she is but she weighed in at 3 lbs 14 ozs. They did not like the amount of bowel dilation seen on the ultrasound so from the DR we went straight to the hospital.

Both baby and mom are currently doing wonderful. Baby is breathing on her own (no ventilator) and they have a silo on her and said that they will probably attempt closure over the weekend.

They also said that she has been pooping a whole lot and the dilation has gone down quite a bit… also the fluid coming from her stomach is light yellow and not green and that said that this was good too.. Not sure when I will have the time to get back here but wanted to stop by quickly to let everyone know…. Thanks so much for all the support of this forum….
