Gastroschisis
(gas.tros.chi.sis) Support and Resources
yey!
i am excited to find other people with gastroschisis! i am 25 years old and was born with gastroschisis. i have never met another person who had it or even knew what it was. i live in tennessee and most doctors here have never even had a case of it! i have many questions about living with it. as far as i know i have never had any complications since birth, but i’m not sure. i recently recieved health insurance again, i just have to find a gastrointestinal specialist that will accept it.
my boyfriend and i were discussing the matter and he gave me the idea to look it up on the internet and walla! i get the impression after reading about it that the doctors that fixed me up as a baby may not have known exactly what they were doing. i am concerned with that now. so, if there’s anyone who’s lived with this their whole life who has any advice, i would love to hear from you!

Hi and welcome to the Gastroschisis website punkroxie, what a cool username. I am glad you have now found us! what a wise boyfriend you have!
You are in a unique band of people here already, yet another gastroschisis survivor with the advantage of growing up and experiencing the birth condition. From time to time we do get questions from new parents and parents to be about how growing up with gastroschisis will effect their baby later in life, it would be great if you could stop by and calm a few of their worries and at the same time the growing community here will do all they can to answer your questions.
With regards to your condition now and maybe in the future, we have a couple of members recently who were born with Gastroschisis 42 years ago
who would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have for them.

I am one of those old foggies Dean mentioned. As the (so far) oldest gastro baby on this sight, I would be happy to try to answer any questions you or anyone else might have about long-term effects. I have had none in 42 years even though I, too, am not entirely convinced my surgeons knew what they were doing when they put me back together again even though one of my surgeons went on to become a very prominent oncologist, who has written several books on the mind-body connection as it relates to healing and wellness.
